What does the process of DTP look like?

Firstly, we ask you to send us the source document and advise us of the format you would like for the final version. If you need translation as well, please provide the target language.

What’s the difference between translation and post-translation DTP?

Many don’t know that the basic translation of the text does not contain the graphic typesetting. During the course of DTP (Desktop Publishing) we re-organise the translated text to make it look like the original: typesets, images, columns, titles, and footnotes will all appear in their correct places. This is especially important when the document is intended to be printed or presented in a visually appealing way.

The length of the text varies depending on the language. Doesn’t it break the layout?

This is an important question. The length of the texts may vary depending on the language (e.g., German words are longer than Chinese ones), so it is possible that the graphic layout may need some adjustment. Our DTP professionals always read through these and make corrections if needed, so that the document will remain visually balanced.

What if I do not have the original file in editable format, only a PDF or a printed version?

This is quite common and not a problem: in these cases, we recreate the layout based on the PDF. The result will be a file that is visually identical to the original, with the text in the target language.

Can you handle images, charts, or graphics?

Yes. If the document contains visual content (e.g., infographics, tables, illustrations), then we re-edit and localize those too and translate the text within, if needed. You will receive a coherent and visually organised final document.

Can you handle printing specifications (e.g., crop marks, CMYK, bleed, etc.) as well?

Of course. If you intend to send the final document for printing, we can set the document to the printing parameters (e.g., 300 DPI, crop marks, colour profiles, margins) so that it can be submitted directly to the print shop.

Will I have the opportunity to revise the document before submitting it to the print-house?

Absolutely. All documents are sent for approval before being finalized, so you’ll have the opportunity to request any changes.
